Located along National Highway 36 which is the main artery in the central Hokkaido region, the roadside rest area “Lake Utonai” is placed closed “New Chitose Airport” which is Hokkaido’s main gateway to the skies and the maritime gateway “Tomakomai Ferry Terminal,” so it is sited in the area easy access from not only from in-Hokkaido but also outside of Hokkaido.
Its adjacent Utonai Lake is the conservation wetland designated as a National Beasts and Birds Preservation Area and as a registered wetland under “the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat (the Ramsar Convention).
This is the best location where you can enjoy the rich nature of Hokkaido.
